Osprey Nest Roundup!

Hello Everybody, Lincoln here!
,
In reviewing this year’s data, I have found that we have received data for 209 nests (wow!), but there are 87 nests that are not being monitored this season. This is lower than the original 112 that I sent out, because it turns out that some of those nests are in fact being monitored, but Audubon did not have that in our records. Fortunately, we have data for all of those nests!
,
To solve the issue of these 87 unmonitored nests, Audubon is organizing an Osprey nest round up! This round up is focused on ensuring that all  of these nests are visited at least once this season, specifically, before any fledglings leave the nest for the season. Thus, our goal is to conduct our round up during the last week of July, between Monday, July 24th and Sunday, July 30th. Your responsibility will be to visit the nests that you sign up for below just one time during that period. Below, there is a link to a Google Spreadsheet. In this spreadsheet is the name of each nest that we will be monitoring for this event, as well as the town it is located in. Please put your name and email address in the columns next to the nests that you are able to monitor during our study period. If you do not know the exact location of certain nests, please refer to our Google Map that contains nest locations and directions for each nest, this link is also below. However, a handful of nests do not have locations in this map, as denoted in the “On Map?” column in the Google Spreadsheet. I am currently in the process of finding the exact locations of these nests and getting them on the map.

Data submission will also be a bit different for this event, as you will only be visiting these nests a single time. Attached to this post, you will find a field data collection sheet that you will fill out as you visit each nest. Each nest will have its own row, and you may need multiple data sheets, depending on how many nests you choose to sign up for. You will then submit a scanned copy of your completed forms, or a photo of them, to me at this email address (LDark@asri.org).

If you have any questions about this event, or the Osprey monitoring program in general, please contact me at any time! My email address is LDark@asri.org and my cell phone number is 4017872362.

I am looking forward to working with all of you!
